As
North
America’s only South Asian owned and operated FM radio station, CMR represents the growing ethnic voice of the
Greater Toronto Area.
Operating at 101.3 MHz on the FM band, at an effective radiated power of 1,000
watts, CMR serves as a forum for debate, discussion and exchange of community,
local, national and international news, events and culture.
The
Toronto
area is home to over 1.3 million immigrants and it is estimated that 43% of all
new immigrants to
Canada
settle in the
Toronto
area. For its size,
Toronto
has three times as many immigrants as the rest of
Canada
, with over 100 countries represented.
It is also said that each of the world’s languages is represented at
least one person in the
Toronto
area. Servicing this cultural
diversity is CMR’s specialty, as these groups continue to seek ties to their
native cultures.
From
its leading edge facility, CMR services 20 ethnic groups in more than 24
languages.
CMR
also provides an important component of cross-cultural programming in English
to bring together members of a large number of ethnic communities to discuss
common issues and build cultural awareness.
